Very strong correlation between average FBM team score and league rank

There is an 80% correlation between FBM team score and the rank a team has in their league. That is a very high correlation. But it would not be impressive if FBM team score would be calculated with team results as one of the inputs.

Yet, we do something completely different: FBM team score is calculated by a formula that only uses individual statistics of players in the starting XI. These individual stats are:

  1. Player Overall Contribution
  2. Player Attacking Contribution
  3. Player Defending Contribution
  4. Player Transitioning Contribution
  5. Player Reliability

Based only on those five stats, we calculated the following ranking based on the average FBM team score for the 2018/2019 season:

TeamAverage FBM scoreCurrent Eredivisie Rank

PEC Zwolle99.1712
Excelsior92.4117
ADO90.5411

To be clear: these score are calculated based on stats that look like this in a contribution chart:

Yerry Mina in Colombia national team 1 vs England national team 1 2018-07-03 20:00:00 (1-1)
Yerry Mina in Colombia national team 1 vs England national team 1 2018-07-03 20:00:00 (1-1)

Update 17-4-2019: As it is highly likely that if there is a correlation between average FBM team score and league rank that there is also a correlation between average FBM team score and the amount of points a team has scored, we looked at that as well. And there the correlation is even higher, namely 90%!
